100 Mile House was originally a roadhouse 100 miles northeast of Lillooet along the wagon road to Barkerville. Today, 100 Mile House acts as the primary service centre for the South Cariboo. It provides commercial services, regional secondary schools, University College of the Cariboo Training and Education Centre, community facilities, health care, financial services, regional policing, government offices, and shopping for a market of area residents as well as tourists. Various accommodation facilities available including a municipal campground.
