The South Cariboo area extends from Lac La Hache in the north, to Clinton in the south, and from the Fraser River in the west to Lac des Roches in the east. It lies east of the Coast Mountains between the Fraser River and the Thompson Plateau. The area’s largest community, the District Municipality of 100 Mile House, is located on Highway 97 and is the major service centre for the South Cariboo.

The South Cariboo area lies within the Interior Continental Climate system that produces warm summers and cold winters, with short-term extremes ranging from +30ºC to –40ºC (+86ºF to -40ºF). The climate is relatively dry, with warm, summer days and cool nights. Day time temperatures often reach 30°C/86°F and average rainfall is 294mm/11.5in. Average winter temperture is around -10ºC/14º F and the average snowfall is about 150cm/59in.

The crisp sunny winters provide the perfect backdrop to any winter day and the long bright summer days provide hours of sunshine for the entire family. Most of the lakes freeze during the winter making them the ideal destination for snowmobiling, ice-fishing and ice skating. These same lakes offer excellent swimming, water-skiing, and fishing during the summer months.
